Individuals are not made to stare at screens all day. They can be an asset, but not be used to do every task. Children used to go to a one room schoolhouse. While at school, students would write on the blackboard or a slate. From reading the Little House on the Prairie series, many knew how to add and subtract in their heads, or on paper. Today, some used calculators and other ways to figure out math problems. How can kids learn in a fun way on and off a computer? This activity book may be of help! Throughout you see a variety of activities including matching games, scramble words, and crosswords. Matching games will help kids understand patterns. They've added a new spin to some classics (like a math focused crossword puzzle and color by numbers with addition) There are spot the differences, word searches, scrambled words, mazes, pattern recognition, etc. This is a really well balanced activity book, with cute illustrations. Its educational, but engaging enough to keep your child entertained (with an answer key in back, in case they get stuck). There are 9 types of puzzles that include mazes, word scrambles, math searches, pattern completion, spot-the-differences, and more. The pattern completion puzzles are easy and the math searches are hard, so this is a good book for a family with children at various levels. Because of the variety of activities, I think this book will please all kids, whether they enjoy mazes, word searches or math. One thing that I would like to see is for the “Find the differences” pictures to be in color instead of black and white. Some of the pictures are very detailed and it can be hard to notice the differences because of the black and white coloring. Other than that, I really liked the book. My 10 year old could easily solve most of the puzzles, but we did have trouble on the "Find the differences" puzzles and a couple of the crosswords. As if the content isn't enough to win you over, at the end there is a "Activity Pro Certificate" ready to be filled out and presented to your child, allowing them to feel accomplished in what they have done. There are also answer keys in the back that allow children to independently check their work. Overall, this is a wonderful activity book for children!
